A Proposed Alternative Low Energy Quantum Field Theory of Gravity Based on a Bose-Einstein Condensate Effect

چکیده

An alternative quantum field theory for gravity is proposed for low energies based on an attractive effect between contaminants in a BoseEinstein Condensate rather than on particle exchange. In the “contaminant in condensate effect,” contaminants cause a potential in an otherwise uniform condensate, forcing the condensate between two contaminants to a higher energy state. The energy of the system decreases as the contaminants come closer together, causing an attractive force between contaminants. It is proposed that mass-energy may have a similar effect on Einstein’s space-time field, and gravity is quantized by the same method by which the contaminant in condensate effect is quantized. The resulting theory is finite and, if a physical condensate is assumed to underly the system, predictive. However, the proposed theory has several flaws at high energies and is thus limited to low energies. Falsifiable predictions are given for the case that the Higgs condensate is assumed to be the condensate underlying gravity.

The cosmological constant: a lesson from Bose–Einstein condensates

The cosmological constant is one of the most pressing problems in modern physics. In this Letter, we address the issue of its nature and computation using an analogue gravity standpoint as a toy model for an emergent gravity scenario. Even if it is well known that phonons in some condense matter systems propagate like a quantum field on a curved spacetime, only recently it has been shown that t...

From Quantum Hydrodynamics to Quantum Gravity

In the presentations at the Session ‘Analog Models of and for General Relativity’ at 11 Marcel Grossmann Meeting, general relativity has been considered as emergent phenomenon. General approaches to emergent relativity have been analyzed. Particular example when gravity is induced in the low-energy corner of quantum condensed matter of the proper universality class has been presented. It was su...

Effective field theory for spinor dipolar Bose Einstein condensates

We show that the effective theory of long wavelength low energy behavior of a dipolar BoseEinstein condensate(BEC) with large dipole moments (treated as a classical spin) can be modeled using an extended Non-linear sigma model (NLSM) like energy functional with an additional non-local term that represents long ranged anisotropic dipole-dipole interaction. Minimizing this effective energy functi...

The Two-Dimensional Bose-Einstein Condensate

We study the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov mean-field theory as applied to a two-dimensional finite trapped Bose gas at low temperatures and find that, in the Hartree-Fock approximation, the system can be described either with or without the presence of a condensate; this is true in the thermodynamic limit as well. We are unable to find condensate solutions when we consider a scheme that predicts the...
